The YMCA of the Rockies asked us to prepare restoration drawings for a log and stone lodge built in the 1920s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but unused for more than a decade due to its decaying condition. The building would become the centerpiece of a retreat center for visiting families including another small dormitory building, a picnic shelter and outdoor chapel.

Virtually the entire north and east sides of the building, including a rooftop deck, needed to be rebuilt and, to the highest degree possible, brought up to current codes. Details including railings, stone piers and log corners were often entirely reconstructed from historic photos. Additionally, almost all of the existing windows were restored, most to full operation.

Inside, new accessible bathrooms, a remodeled kitchen and a second exit stair were designed within the existing log and stone walls. The site was reworked to provide accessible parking and a new handicapped path and ramp was virtually invisibly integrated into the western hillside to provide access to the main floor.
